CFB Mental Health Week, CA Economic Summit, and HOOAH Award

It’s hard to believe summer is over and we are rapidly falling into winter and the holiday season! We are enjoying being spooky, practicing kindness, and keeping busy as we continue to break down silos and build connections. We hope this note finds you well and thriving! Here are some reminders about what is happening in our world in case you can join us - we’d love to hear from you about what’s happening in yours!

Special shout out to colleague, changemaker, and Cleveland cross-sector leader Justin Bibb… or I should say Mayor Justin Bibb! Congratulations!

Our Work

College Football Mental Health Week

From October 2-9, College Football Mental Health Week returned, hosted by Hilinski’s Hope. Over 65 universities showed their support, alongside the Pac-12, Big-12, and the College Football Playoff Foundation. This collective week of action garnered 140+ articles nationwide (including Sports Illustrated, On3, Seattle Times, and SBJ), mentions on ESPN SportsCenter, CBS Sports, and 429 million impressions across platforms.

Hilinski’s Hope hosted a mental health training open to all student athletes to give them the tools to address mental health struggles and recognize the signs in others. Most importantly, student athletes, fans, coaches, sports psychologists, and countless others came together to break down stigma, host difficult conversations, and provide mental health resources.

CA Economic Summit

Dave will be speaking in partnership with Go-BIZ on behalf of CalOZ at the 2021 California Economic Summit in Monterey on November 9-10. This year’s summit will celebrate ten years of collective action, bringing together a bipartisan network of business, equity, environmental and civic organizations to champion triple bottom line solutions. Produced by California Forward in partnership with the California Stewardship Network, the Summit influences CA FWD’s ongoing movement to make the government and economy work for all. If you’re attending this year’s Summit, let us know!

2021 HOOAH Award

In 2009, the Major George A. Smith Memorial Fund established the HOOAH Award. For over 10 years, this award has been given each year at the Annual Conference on Citizenship to a veteran who defines citizenship through service to our country, both in uniform and beyond.

In our ongoing efforts to promote service in all its forms, we’re proud to honor our veterans as true civic leaders in our country. This year, we’re excited to recognize Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) as the HOOAH Award honoree!

Join us virtually for the HOOAH Award ceremony on Veterans Day, November 11th at 12:30PST!
