Earth Day, Jamie's Next Steps, and the Final Four

“You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference and you have to decide what kind of a difference you want to make.”

—Jane Goodall

California Volunteers Lab

On March 31, X Sector Labs held an Innovation Lab to engage a diverse set of cross-sector stakeholders in co-creating potential solutions and strategies that unite Californians through service and volunteerism and tackle our state’s greatest challenges.

We had 40+ leaders come together to create greater understanding of the synergies between encouraging Californians to serve, providing meaningful service opportunities, and creating a positive volunteer experience. From this, we derived actionable ideas that leverage cross-sector collaborations and strengthen California’s ability to engage its citizens in volunteering and service.

In the coming months, the Hilinski’s Hope Game Plan program kicks off with over a dozen university partners. The first schools in line to complete this comprehensive program are the University of Alabama, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Pomona College, Louisiana Tech University, University at Buffalo, and Stevenson University.

CGI Commitment by Common Impact: Supporting Small Business Recovery with Skills Based Volunteering

Common Impact, in partnership with NYC Service and the NYC Department of Small Business Services, have committed to launching the Volunteers for Small Business Recovery, a pilot program serving small businesses in New York City’s 27 priority neighborhoods hardest hit by the pandemic.

This pilot will match small business leaders with corporate volunteers who will offer “just-in-time’ consultative support through their Pro Bono Hotline to provide rapid support for crisis situations or quick advice for capacity-strapped businesses.
